Travelling down my new path of chemical free natural products I had the great opportunity of meeting Angela, owner of Willow Cottage. Attending a ‘Lotions and potions’ workshop I learned so much and felt that giddy excited feeling you get when you feel you are onto something really good. You can catch my review of the workshop here. I could not leave her beautiful shop without her Frankincense and Geranium Rejuvenating Face Cream. I wanted to step up my game regarding facial care. I was using products that were as chemical free as possible but still, I wanted to go further and push through that barrier to the pure 100% natural world.
This face cream contains only four ingredients, all pure natural ingredients. Shea butter, Calendula oil, Frankincense essential oil and Geranium oil essential oil. It is so refreshing to look at an ingredient list, be able to pronounce all the names and without it taking half an hour I might add. Shea butter is an emollient meaning it moisturises and soothes the skin. It contains oleic, stearic, palmitic and linolenic acids that nourishes the skin. It has natural anti- inflammatory properties that have been proven in a study performed in 2010 (here). It contains Vitamin A and E which improves the signs of ageing, wrinkles and fine lines while providing a natural SPF. Calendula oil has been used for centuries, the Egyptians especially exploiting its skin rejuvenating properties. It contains anti- inflammatory, anti- bacterial, anti- fungal properties while stimulating the production of collagen to reduce scars and stretch marks. Frankincense essential oil is known as the ‘King’ of essential oils. After all, the three kings brought Jesus Frankincense as a gift on his birth for its healing properties. The rejuvenating properties help keep tissues thriving, allowing the replacement of old cells with new healthy cells. The anti- ageing properties help eliminate wrinkles, fine lines and pores. Geranium essential oil contains similar properties making it a no brainer to put into skincare products.
The only downfall of using this cream is that I cannot stop touching my face. It is so soft I can’t stop feeling it, seriously. I have been using this cream for nearly two months now and my skin feels and looks great. In this time I have not gotten one spot and my pores are still closed. It smells great when you apply it to your skin. Don’t forget this product is also an aromatherapy treatment so a quick tip is to cup your hands over your face and take three deep breaths. Trust me there are times that I need his calming effect. The texture is lovely, it has a whipped consistency. It feels great when being applied, no synthetic smells.
I have been using my 50ml jar (€10.80) for nearly two months now and it will definitely last me another month. You don’t need to use a lot of product so it’s definitely economic and affordable. I don’t really understand why you would go and buy chemical laden products when you can use products on your skin that are 100% safe for you. Go on, just give it a go. You have absolutely nothing to lose, only the fear of change will stop you.
